History:
The Old Wyoming State Penitentiary is known to locals as The Old Pen. The Wyoming State Territorial Prison in Laramie, Wyoming was overcrowding by

[ more photos ] 1873 and another prison was needed to house criminals. Thus, The Old Wyoming State Penitentiary was built. Construction of the facility was completed by 1901.
The prison would hardly be up to par for todays standards. There was no running water in cells. Prisoners preyed on each other. "The Hole" was a small, dark chamber where prisoners would be sent for punishment. In "The Hole" there was no light and prisoners were only minimally cared for, just enough to keep them alive.
In 1981, the Wyoming State Penitentiary was closed down due to a variety of issues.
Paranormal Reports:
Disembodied voices, apparitions, and feelings of uneasiness are commonly reported by staff and visitors to The Old Pen. The showers, death row, the gas chamber, and the isolation rooms (known as The Hold) and specific cells are most commonly associated with paranormal activity.
